Scalise is back {groan} [View all]
Louisiana Republican House member Steve Scalise showed up at the Capitol today for the first time since being shot in June. He was the most seriously-wounded person in the shooting.
I caught the first few minutes of Scalise's words on the House floor. The mood was just ecstatic. He thanked the Park Service police for saving his life and another guy who put a tourniquet on him to stop him from bleeding too much. I wasn't listening too intently, but I didn't hear him thank the hospital staff or doctors for saving his life. I hope I'm wrong.
But he turned to God pretty quick. It's all about God. And the awesome power of prayer. And everybody all over the country that was praying for him, and even strangers took the time to pray for him. It turned my stomach and I left the room to do something else, so I didn't hear everything he said. When I came back to the room, he was still speaking, so I turned it up and he's going on again about the power of prayer.
Before he was shot, Scalise had one of the more hard-core conservative voting records in Congress. The League of Conservation Voters gives Scalise a 3% 2016 Voting Score and a 4% Lifetime Score. "Progressive Punch" a lib/progressive group, gave Scalise a Lifetime Score of under 2%. Most Dems get rated in the 90% range. Real compassionate asshole this guy is.
I wonder if Steve's experience will soften his good Christian heart a bit towards comforting the afflicted? I kinda doubt it. You don't have to necessarily afflict the comfortable to adequately fund social programs, but these Christians just seem so cold-hearted.
