A Little Snow! [View all]
It's been snowing since yesterday afternoon in the Montana Mountains and surrounding areas, coming right out of the north with the arctic air mass moving southward. It was windy and snowing rather hard. I moved my vehicle for the plow around noon, just before it really started snowing. It stopped for a couple hours but now, early Saturday morning, it is snowing hard and coming sideways out of the east, visibility ~ 1,000ft at best.
We might get 12 -15" Not that much, but it's really wet.
The grader is out clearing the drifts, getting ready for the subzero freeze that will follow. Once this wet snow sets, it will be semi-permanent for a while... at least until it gets above +32F for a week or so.
The best part is the addition to the meager snow pack. The bad part is the avalanche danger, many warnings are already up in popular recreation areas.
