A couple decades running all over the middle of the continent and I had to rely on watching the weather for survival.

Now I look at a number of weather sites online every day before I do much else.

I like to see the global satellite images, I can figure out a lot just by seeing those, especially the loop animation. It seems these storms are generated from ambient moisture since there are no clouds at the break of day yet there are massive thunderheads forming by nine o'clock in the morning. The rotation of two large gyr patterns that seem to be permanently in place over the central US and the immediate eastern Pacific ocean have been making our odd weather for months.
