i'm going to ask a question here, cuz I can't find a place to ask it.

first a disclaimer, I know this group is a refuge from politics, and I am not trying to bring politics in, but I'm using a political issue as an example.

I try to understand how do peoples' minds work, esp people I disagree with.
Not for ex climate deniers - I don't try to understand how their mind works.
but suppose someone seemingly shares my values and then supports things which are counter to these values.

Cognitive dissonance it is called and it is highly evident here at du.

is anyone here interested in discussing this. I don't feel like bringing up something and then being smashed for it, and serving no purpose except to get people driven by their drama.

this group seems to be a place where people are thoughtful, and I can't find any place on du for thoughtful discussion. Am I missing it? Bec. if there is no such place, that would account for a lot of what I hate about du.
