that mess in Florida in 2000 was assisted by one John Roberts; it isn't out of the realm of possibility that he was handsomely rewarded for that work when he was appointed to replace the late Rhenquist. Having Roberts on the bench is not exactly comforting to Democrats; that said, an evenly split court could benefit either side in an election issue. The pile of reasons to loathe Republicans grows daily.
