Narendra Modi is a rightwing Hindu nationalist who won in India [View all]

Several people in my family voted for him and they voted for him because they themselves are Hindu nationalists (my father), or they were voting because they thought he was less corrupt BUT they were low-key ok with Hindu nationalism (my step mother and my cousin).

I think being non-secular is shameful, being a Hindu nationalist is shameful, being OK with Hindu nationalism is shameful.

That being said, I am not running around trying to find excuses for why they voted the way they did.

It is possible to know people, love people, and also admit why they did a terrible thing.
