(60,139 posts)As it was there was a made for TV movie that was very well done that covered what happened in more detail than most of us older than you could have read at the time. It is pretty devastating that although he voted against confirmation, he cut off further hearings even as other women came forward. As it was, this was the narrowest SCJ vote ever - 52 to 48. The NYT has an interesting article that gives some of the Senators' stated reasons for their vote. As the movie made clear, some of our strongest voices at the time were silenced because of their own problems with women. That article - and the movie - may show that it could have been politically wise for the Democrats, controlling the Senate to not push this forward and lose the votes.
