7. I am hoping for a totally peaceful event.

I know that occupy does understand that the arrest and violence of the police gets them the best coverage. They remind themselves of this while they are trying to remain peaceful while getting sprayed and beaten. I think they understand the importance of remaining peaceful, and I think that they are very good at doing so. It seems that they are going for a long sustained peaceful approach rather than try to jump it up with the use of violence and petty crime.

However, they can't control every, or any, group other than their very own local people. Anyone can join in the protest. So they push peace but can't really stop what other people do. And this G8 is gonna have a lot of other people. It won't be the Chicago Occupiers who cause any problems, in my opinion, but I'm sure they will get blamed for any.

Generally, if the authorities are not going to try to stop free speech and protests, I think there will be a few minor incidents by arses, but a generally peaceful event. If they try to rope them off or restrict their march path, shit could turn nasty. If they just let them march, it will go smoothly.

Yes, it is the fact that they won't leave, they won't stfu and go away that makes Occupy successful. That is why the camping was so important. It shouted "we're still here"

The G8 event certainly should be historic.

I don't know that they would attempt a sit in/ lock down kind of thing at such a huge event, but you never know what they will do. I will probably go with whatever they decide.

I'm too old and broken to run, so I'm gonna try to stay away from any trouble. While I may be ok with getting arrested for Occupy, I would rather not do it out of state at an International event with federal laws taking the lead. lol
