that gets paid by the company wishing to place ads. Specific ads are triggered by words used on the site. Words like "guns" are regularly used on DU. DU gets a small part of the ad revenue, but doesn't control the ad content. You can eliminate ads by either buying a star (altho I don't see where to clik for that right now) or use an ad blocker.
