(11,579 posts)He is no longer raising money for his campaign - he knows it's a useless task. He is at the end of his political life, but he wants to remain relevant.
His efforts in raising money for corona virus causes are in effect tantamount to conceding his primary loss. At the same time this gives Bernie a chance to preserve the "movement" as a social rather than a political one, while it also softens the punch in the gut he received in the recent primary races and one he is about to receive with the upcoming inevitable suspension of his campaign. It's a pretty smart move, actually, which allows Bernie to bow out gracefully and distract from the embarrassment of a failed presidential bid.
This move sort of takes care of Bernie, but the question is how well he can integrate his surrogates into this transition. I believe he lost control of them a while ago, and their entrenched militancy can ruin Bernie's legacy despite his best efforts.
