In reply to the discussion: The Intercept - The Democratic Party Must Harness the Legitimate Rage of Americans [View all]The Magistrate
(96,043 posts)To gain popular support, one must fight, and be seen to fight. People want their Representatives and Senators and Presidents and all the rest to fight for their interests, and that is what they are elected to do. Knuckling under, striving to placate, to acknowledge there might be something to an accusation (unless done to set up some lethal riposte) gives the impression of weakness, not of strength, and reveals a person as, at best, not very good at fighting. This poor impression may be made up for, by tribal loyalty, by allegiance to points of policy, even by great distaste for the opposition, but the result will always be less than the best that could be obtained, by a candidate people could see straight off was a good fighter.
"Americans love a winner! And hate a loser!"
"When things are not called by their right names, what is said cannot make sense. When what is said does not make sense, what is planned cannot succeed. When plans do not succeed, people become uneasy. When people are uneasy, punishments do not fit crimes. When punishments do not fit crimes, people cannot know where to put hand or foot."

primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
