The last shred might have wafted away when he obediently humiliated himself at the WH in the too-big Florsheim shoes Trump gave him and expected him to wear. He wants to beat out that similarly soul-deprived husk of a human, the upholstery-abusing JD Vance, for the King's blessing for the 2028 ticket, so he'll be competing with Vance for how far he can crawl on his belly like a reptile.
