19. Because unfortunately our society isn't ready for that conversation

Sexism/misogyny is so deeply rooted (along with racism and heteronormative thinking) that even many well meaning people can't see past their own biases to truly challenge themselves. It's easy to convince ourselves that we aren't sexist, or provide excuses why we have to continue centering cishet Christian largely white guys this time (and the next time and the next time).

Even here when push comes to shove, far too many people aren't willing to have painful conversations about that and how reflexively our guy wouldn't do that or their behavior wasn't that bad, or we can't risk it this election comes up again and again. Same thing the party did with those pesky gay rights and why are they insisting on same sex marriage when it's not popular yet. We have an election to win and they just have to wait.

We all have to be willing to look at our actions more critically and be willing to see the ugly truths we hide from ourselves. And it sucks to do so. Nobody likes to really acknowledge where they fall short of their ideals and to accept they have deeply buried biases and lies that we believe.
