52. For both of our sons, my mother gave me Hallmark "Baby's First Christmas" ornaments...

...into which I put their newborn nursery pictures, so those have a special place in my heart.

I also have an antique glass Santa that I cherish - can't remember if it was from my mom's or dad's side of the family, but it hung in our tree when I was kid and I'm 73 now, so it's been around a long time. There's no one left to ask about which side this ornament came from.

And, from pre-school thru college, I got each son the same ornament, and wrote the date on the back/bottom. This started when I wanted to establish our own Christmas tradition unique to our family. When the boys were young enough to believe in Santa, after they'd fallen asleep, we would hang that year's ornaments on the doorknobs of their bedrooms - typically, they would wake up before we did, and the ornament-on-the-doorknob was the sign that Santa had made his rounds. We continued the practice until they finished college.

When he was 5 or 6, our older son showed up at our beside at 7 minutes before 5 AM - yes, 7 minutes before 5, not 5 minutes before 7 (aka 4:53). My husband made him go back to bed.

And, I was always careful to say "the spirit of Sant Claus," so I couldn't be accused of lying once the awful truth came out.

As a kid I loved these at my grandparent's farm. They couldn't afford very many, but they were cool. Silent Type Tuesday #1
