25 loose Great Danes captured near where California walker was fatally mauled

Northern California woman was found dead, apparently mauled by dogs, and investigators discovered about 25 Great Danes running loose in the area.

A resident reported the death to the Butte County sheriff’s office on Thursday, Aug. 8. The body was found on a dirt road after Davina Corbin, 56, had reportedly failed to return from a walk near her home in a forested area east of Lake Oroville, the sheriff’s report said.

An autopsy noted numerous bite marks and attributed the death to an attack by domestic dogs.


When sheriff’s deputies and detectives went to search a home near where the body was found, they determined that about 25 Great Danes were loose. They “spent the entire day capturing the dogs,” the sheriff’s report said; the last two were caught on Friday.

The animals were given to county animal control.

Corbin’s clothing was sent to a lab for DNA analysis that might indicate which dogs attacked her, and the ongoing investigation is attempting to determine the circumstances of the encounter, the sheriff’s office said.
