7. i juggle hard to keep breed purity v genetic diversity. i want to build a chicken.

i am all about that egg basket, but at the same time, i am not comfortable w an annual infusion from mc murray. my goal is sustainability above all, so i raise my own.
the only known outbreaks of salmonella in back yard flocks was traced to big hatcheries, and prolly fleet farm chicks.

i did mostly brown layers last year, and need a shot of green. but roos are an issue, so i do the best i can w 3/4 and half breeds, and a couple pure breds.

then i have a sorta blown rotator cuff surgery in the pipeline...
might be a good year to take a year off. i can wait another year to conquer the chicken world.
