I'd go read about genocides and environmental doomsday books personally. Or do you mean scary as in how stupid and dangerous people are in America? Or scary as in maimed childhoods, Hitler or NASA space disasters? Scary as in disease or drugs? Serial killers, and rapists? Nixon? Flesh eating bacteria? Clowns?

Too much to account for. But I do say those books I just pointed you to are scary in one way or another.
